Welcome to the Amarante & Barbera family

At the heart of the Amarante family are Mary Catherine ("Gram") and Mary Grace, the creators of our cherished "Famous Freselles" recipe.

For three generations, freselles have been a staple at Amarante and Barbera family gatherings, accompanying dinners and antipasti. No bowl of Meneste—our favorite family soup—was complete without freselles and some good Italian cheese. Over the years, this tradition has come to symbolize the care and love we put into preparing meals for family and friends.

In 2010, Maddie Barbera joined the family and began learning the treasured Amarante recipes, starting with freselles. Building on Gram's original recipe, which featured black pepper, Maddie began experimenting with multiple peppercorn blends, expanding the freselle offerings to include other forms of savory heat, such as Italian Calabrian peppers and red pepper flake—an essential in Italian cooking! By 2022, she set out to bring our family's famous freselles to market.

As for our name, Pepperberry Foods is inspired by the California Pepper tree, known for its vibrant, peppery berries—bold and bright, just like our recipes.
